Workshop aims

Main aims of the  conference are to investigate the formation of discontinuities and interfaces in different materials, as well as to describe their long-time behaviour. Both the modelling and analytical aspects will be discussed, with a particular attention to applications. A multidisciplinary approach will be encouraged. This will be possible thanks to the different  expertises of the main speakers.

The topics of the conference are:

• fractures, cracks and damaging: direct and inverse problems
• phase transitions, diffuse interfaces, and contact problems
• stability and dissipative evolution, gradient systems

On Tuesday 21th afternoon and Wednesday 22th morning a Special Session entitled

Between Mechanics and Mathematics: the “non-smooth” view by Michel Frémond 

will be held on the occasion of the 70^th  birthday of  Michel Frémond.
